Today, State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Article Six Group and SOCAR Trading hosted hashtag#COP29 session on how Article 6 carbon markets can fund meaningful methane reduction.

Among the speakers we had: Elnur Soltanov (CEO of COP29), Afgan Isayev (Vice President of State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Ely Sandler (Managing Partner of Article 6 Group), Taleh Musayev (Chief Operating Officer of SOCAR Trading), Marisa Drew (Chief Sustainability Officer of Standard Chartered), Landon Derentz (Senior Director, Atlantic Council), Julien Perez (Managing Director, Oil and Gas Climate Initiative, (OGCI)), Mark S. Brownstein (Senior Vice President, Environmental Defence Fund)

For the first time, the Forum of 100 has nominated three active leaders in commodity trading among the “100 personalities shaping French-speaking Switzerland.” We are proud to announce that SOCAR Trading CEO, Mariam Almaszade, has been recognized alongside Seb Landerretche and Gérard D. on this prestigious list, published annually by Le Temps.

This recognition celebrates individuals whose leadership and vision drive the dynamism and innovation that define our region. It also shines a spotlight on the commodities sector—a vital yet often underappreciated industry that plays a key role in global economic prosperity.

Achieving net-zero requires electrifying the economy and decarbonizing the grid. Despite their growth, carbon markets have faced challenges in demand and credibility, limiting their impact.

On November 18th, 2024, from 11:30 -12:30 PM, SOCAR Trading’s COO, Taleh Musayev and Head of Carbon Desk, Julie Noller, along with other speakers, will discuss how carbon markets can finance large-scale decarbonization, focusing on infrastructure for clean energy generation, transmission, and storage.

The event will highlight initiatives in Azerbaijan and globally, with insights into the latest in carbon markets, including Article 6 and CORSIA.
